Last week, Isfahan province in Iran experienced drone and missile strikes, reportedly originating from Israel. The target was a region housing Iran’s nuclear facility and air defence systems.
While Israel neither confirmed nor denied the attacks, American news agencies attribute them to Israel. These explosions followed a week after Iran’s unprecedented drone, cruise, and ballistic missile attack on Israel, escalating tensions in the region.
Analyzing satellite images, both the New York Times and the BBC identified a battery of the Russian-made S-300 Surface-Air anti-ballistic missile defence system northeast of Isfahan International Airport.
According to BBC’s analysis, the S-300 system includes various vehicles equipped with radar and missile launchers. Despite its presence, Israeli drones and missiles reportedly struck the system, indicating a breach of Iranian air defences.
Iranian officials claimed no detection of foreign objects entering Iranian airspace on the day of the attack, including drones, missiles, or aircraft. Iran’s state media, IRNA, supported this claim, stating no missile attacks occurred and their air defence system remained inactive. However, satellite imagery corroborates damage to the targeted facility.
